Life is Beautiful!

Take time to stop and smell the flowers!!!!

We hope you had an Egg-cellent break.
31 days remaining and we have so much to do.
Here is a rundown below.

Monday, April 9th-Science Fair Projects are due.  Homework is coming home and is due 04/13.

·  Tuesday, April 10th-3rd Nine Weeks Reward---Luau 10:40-11:00.  Students received their invitations before the break.  They were on a small, bright blue sheet of paper if they had made their goals.

·      April 9-27thCurricula- We have three more stories in our reading series:  (A Birthday Basket for Tia; Cowboys, and Jingle Dancer).  We will continue with our normal routine of: spelling and math for the next three weeks.  Then, we will pull from other sources to finish our Language Arts instruction.  Finally, we will begin working on our last reading and math benchmarking for the year.  Scores will be sent home with report cards on the last day of school.

·      April 9th-Year-End—Writing Portfolios- In class, students will be working with each child to complete their writing portfolio that will follow them to third grade.  The students will have three pieces that they will be working on. Science/Social Studies time will be used to work each student. Therefore, you will see less from those content areas coming home.  The afternoon will be devoted to reading bags and AR.

·      May 18th-Kentucky Down Under Program- Please let your teacher know if your child is allergic to any animal prior to this date. Mrs. Combs can give us specifics if you contact your teacher with  questions.

·      May 21st-Last Day for Students- Check with your child's teacher about the details about the last day of school.
Please let us know if you have any questions!  It's hard to  believe that we are sending our little classes on to third grade!  They have all been so great and grown so much this year! They will all really be missed!

Only five days to GO?

We are happy to report that spring break is right around the corner.  Thirty five days to go until the last day of school.  Second Grade has so many memorable plans to be made.  These boys and girls are such a wonderful group of students.  It is exciting to have witnessed their growth over the 142 days of school.  However, it saddens us to see it all come to an end in a short amount of time.  Your child's teacher will send information home within the next month concerning the last day of school.

Art's Day

Thursday, March 15 we enjoyed Western Art's Day.  We are so appreciative of the presenters, dancers, authors, etc. A huge thank you to Mrs. Halsey and the many teacher/parents who volunteered their spare time planning and organizing this big event.
Our last rotation included dancers from Scott County Parks & Recreation. Many of our students jumped up to line dance with the pretty girls. This is a picture of the whole gang!

Short But Sweet

The weekend flew passed us.  The kids felt like our first week back was very long.  We can through five days then have a three day weekend.

The weather is sure to get colder this week and maybe see a little snow.  Please update your child's teacher if your contact information has changed.  It has been awhile since we've had an early dismissal but anything is possible.  It's unlikely we will need to worry about that.

Stay warm,
Second Grade

September Comes to An End

Hello!

What words would you use to describe your best friend? “Brilliant?” “Radiant?” How about “Some Pig”? Well, maybe not the last one, but that’s exactly how Charlotte describes her best friend, Wilbur. Charlotte is the spider and Wilbur the pig are closer than close and when Wilbur finds out he’s in danger of becoming bacon Charlotte is determined to hatch a plan that will save him. Join us at the Lexington Children’s Theater on Thursday, September 29th as this unlikely duo learn invaluable lessons about friendship, life, and loss.
The scheduled time of the play is 10:00 to 11:00.Buses will be picking us up at 9:00. If you are planning on attending, you may follow the buses to the theater or meet us there. Parking will be available on Saunier Street at the Baptist Church or the Funeral Home. The address of Lexington Children’s Theater is 418 West Short Street. We would suggest being there between 9:30 and 9:45.
After the play, we will return to school for lunch and continue with our regular schedule. We encourage to students to remain at school rather than be checked our early.
Thank you!
